In Alblasserdam there is a house that represents the future

The van Zessen house, completed in 1923, is an iconic design within De Stijl and an early manifesto of modern architecture. Cornelis Eesteren and Theo van Doesburg designed the house in Paris while they were working on the legendary De Stijl exhibition that same summer. Since 1988 the van Zessen House is owned by the Van Eesteren-Fluck & Van Lohuizen Foundation.

The house can be visited by appointment.

Huis van Zessen

The Huis van Zessen is located in Alblasserdam, the birthplace of the famous urban planner Cornelis van Eesteren, who would make his name with the General Expansion Plan of Amsterdam.

Alblasserdam and the building industry from which he emerged shaped the young Cornelis, both personally and professionally. His encounters with the great artistic talents of his time, including the artist Theo van Doesburg, contributed to his ideas and the visual vocabulary of modern architecture and urban planning.
